Reflection on This Unit

Reflection for this Unit

At the start of this unit I was confused of what Stage Combat meant and I wasn't quite sure what we were going to do.

When we learnt a lot about Stage Combat Miss told us crate a performance that we had to do in pairs and my partner was Noor.
When we started to create our story line we weren't sure of what would be a good problem. So we we had some time was wasted on choosing what it would be. To justify this I think we could've just stuck to one problem and not change. It went quite smooth when we got an idea of what our play is going to be about. We could've added in more technique to the different types of combats. We demonstrated our act using slaps, punches, hair pull and something that we added in the neck snap. To conclude this reflection o would like to say that this has been a very fun unit and I have improved my drama skills from last year Thanks to Miss Ruiz :)

Stage Combat- Mini play

Person A: Serena Richards, a trust worthy person who likes to make new friends and shares her secrets with Veronica Fields someone she THOUGHT was really close.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Person B: Veronica Fields she's got the sass of a mean girl and shouldn't be kept with secrets. She spreads fake rumors

We are fighting because Serena Richards told Veronica fields a secret that she thought Veronica would keep safe. But instead Veronica told everyone and made up fake rumors.

I think it will be successful but probably won't be perfect. I will try my best to react as powerful and as realistic as possible.

Dialogue:

Serena: (shoves front) why did you do that?
Veronica: do what?Serena: You told everyone my biggest secret! (Attempts to slap Veronica but Veronica ducks) Veronica: I just told a few friends (slaps Serena) Serena: your not supposed to tell anyone! I thought we were friends and I thought I could trust you! (Attempts to slap Veronica but Veronica blocks) Veronica: (blocking the slap) You still can! It's not that big of a deal! (Veronica punches Serena in the stomach) Serena: (coughing from the stomach punch)Serena: I've had enough of you! (Back slaps Veronica)Veronica:ouch ouch!Serena: (punches Veronica twice in the stomach)Serena: (pulls Veronica's hair)Veronica: ouch! Stop!Serena: I'm done with you! (snaps Veronica's neck)

REFLECTION ON STAGE SLAP

Reflection:
Stage slap is a new skill we have learned in Stage Combat. Miss had given us a scenario and we had to include the new skill 'THE STAGE SLAP'. I feel like I need improve on my facial expressions and be more serious when using doing the stage slap. My actions have to have more tension, and use more power. It is a bit hard to get the slap done professionally but we can improve through the term. In the stage slap I feel like I also need to add a bit of melodrama not too much but just a few skills and techniques.

Reflection for This Unit

Reflection
This unit I have developed confidence and more dramatic acts. I feel that after this unit i can use more dramatic scenes and act with more confidence. This unit the teamwork we had was very successful and I actually enjoyed this movie because we had a lot of dramatic scenes and I liked the costumes we had they were also very successful like the mermaid tail. Each of us had a role for example I had to finish the poster and help with the editing. As a team I worked collaboratively with Mayukh, Jonas and Nadia and it was AWESOME! Movies and films can sometimes change the ways we see the world like for example movies like 'BASSED ON A TRUE STORY' so things like global warming and robbery and many unwanted things happening around the world so sometimes directors try to make movies based on those scenes. I saw the reactions of the people they were laughing and all but then I saw one of my classmates yawning and so then I thought me and my group members could've been more melodramatic and show more interest. I could use the confidence that I gained while making these melodramatic movies in other subjects like History, English, Science, Geography etc. This is because we usually presentations in these subjects and I was just a bit frightened when I do presentations but I recently just did a PRESENTATION in History and I was quite confidence so Drama really helped me to gain back my confidence.

Production Sheet

  1. What characters are you playing?
Hero- Jonas- Daniel Dogood
Damsel- Snow White- Nadia
Friend of damsel- Mermaid- Tanya
Villain- Joey Suspicious- Mayukh
Servant of villain- Alfred- Jonas

2.
Convention 1: The villain asking the magical mirror whether he is the greatest in the world. This convention will be used in the start of the story to introduce the villain because this convention portrays how the villain can't tolerate anyone being greater than him therefore he will harm anyone greater than him.

Convention 2: The servant of the villain not killing Snow White. This convention will be used in the part where the villain orders the servant to go kill Snow White and bring her heart to him but the servant instead brings the heart of a pig. The convention demonstrates how the servant is scared of the villain therefore can't tell the villain that he doesn't want to perpetrate what he is been ordered to do although he is a good person as he doesn't do anything to Snow White.

Convention 3: The damsel taking the apple from the villain. This convention will be used during the dilemma as that is when Snow White faints after eating the poisonous apple. This convention shows how dumb the damsel is and how she trusts anyone including strangers.

What costume will you wear? Why?
Hero: Bright colored costume with a bright red cape because bright colors symbolizes the bravery of the hero and also it makes him look more like a good guy.
Villain: Dark colored costume e.g. Black jacket and etc because dark colors represent villain as a villain's mind is filled with evil plans and those are never meant to have a good ending.
Servant of villain: Something normal (not very good clothing).
Damsel: Something cute and the color of clothing should be something light not dark colored because dark colors also
represent someone much more serious and harsh whereas light colors represent  what a damsel is; fun, loving and immature.
Friend of damsel: Should wear a colorful costume like a mermaid and should have a mermaid tail.

What props do you need? Why?
  • We need a mirror because it will tell the villain that he is not the greatest of them all.
  • A tray and a hand fan when Alfred comes to the king after being called.
  • Something representing a pig and something representing its heart.
  • A dog as Snow White's pet.
  • An apple for the part when the villain gives Snow White a poisonous apple

Peer Assessment-Silent Movie

Peer Assessment : Silent Movie

Nazih, Alice, Samia, Azaan
Switched
Adequate 6
There group had and amazing video they used many different sounds which suited each scene. i could recognize that Samia was the Maiden because if the way she dressed up but maybe she could've over exaggerated a bit more and be more melodramatic. Overall this group had amazing team work.

Mayukh, Jonas, Runa, Noor
Grandma bones saves the day
Adequate 6
This group had some technical problems which was ok but maybe they shouldn't have described each scene very detailed.

My group
Adequate 6
Reflection:
This was a very fun experience and a very cooperative experience to.
I had a lot of fun shooting the video and working together. I suggest
that next time we use more costumes be a bit more over exaggerated and show more melodrama. I guess since this was our first time in the future projects we would have improved. I hope we do more projects like this and more group work.

Mohammed, Mille, Anju, Adam
Missing Money
Excellent 7
This group had an amazing movie and the sounds they used were really good and really funny. They demonstrated each role very melodramatically. Mille was playing with her which showed that she was the maiden.

MELODRMA COMPREHENSION!

1.In which century did melodrama develop? Melodrama developed in 19th century in France

2. Why is it called ‘melodrama’?
The plays were always accompanied by music – hence its name “melo” – melody or music – to heighten the emotional impact on the audience or to signal a particular response.

3. Why was melodrama so popular?
They used spectacular settings, music, exaggerated acting and encouraged audience interaction to promote its popularity.

4. List the three (3) segments of a standard melodrama plot. What action does each segment involve? the 3 segments are
- Provocation: the initial cause for setting action into motion – jealousy or greed forces an evil character to plan an offence.
- Pangs: the consequential sufferings of the good and innocent characters who are caught up in the evil plot.
- Penalty: in a last minute twist of fate, the wicked character has their plans foiled and receives a punishment for his/her evil actions.

5. What are some conflicting themes a melodrama would usually explore?

Melodrama’s used spectacular settings, stage effects (such as earthquakes, volcanos or fires), elaborate costumes and music to increase their impact and appeal. The plays were always accompanied by music – hence its name “melo” – melody or music – to heighten the emotional impact on the audience or to signal a particular response.

6. Are the characters in melodrama life-like or stereotyped?
Melodrama characters were not meant to be particularly life-like, rather they were meant to have identifiable types of personalities.

7. List three (3) stock characters and describe each of their personal qualities.- A hero. Handsome, strong, brave, honest and reliable. Status: Middle class or higher.
- A heroine. Beautiful, courageous, innocent and vulnerable. Status: Middle class or higher.
- A villain. Cunning, without morals, dishonest, cruel and evil. Status: Middle class or higher.

8. What is the difference between the faithful servant and a maid servant? the faithful servant does the dirty work and the maid servant is lively

9. What is an ‘aside’?- Asides: an aside is where any character speaks directly to the audience to reveal a thought or plan that is kept secret from the rest of the other characters. The actor’s delivery of the aside should instil a feeling of secrecy and draw the audiences focus away from the other action and onto their ‘secret’.

THE MAIDEN

I dressed up as a maiden
I used some light foundation and used earnings and let my hair loose. I wore a brown dress because I cold to find a white dress and that's the only dress I could find. The maiden's role is usually the victim and is also usually what the villain is aiming for so the hero can come in and save the maiden as well as saving the day. My posture that u was gladly surprised that just in time the hero came to save me.

THE HERO

I dressed up like a hero
I used some foundation to brighten up my face and show a more hero face. I wore a green cape and a greenish blue shirt with dark blue pant. A hero's role is to deadest the villain and bring peace to the society and to get rid of all the nastiness that the villain had brought. A hero's role is also to save the maiden and to save any innocent people that are in trouble and that need help.

THE VILLAIN

I dressed up like a villain
I used black makeup to make the mustache and the tiny beard on my chin. I wore cloak as written to describe the villain and I wore blackish grey pants and a blue shirt under the cloak. A villain has the most villainous plans and is usual screwed at the end😬. The villains job is to make trouble and trouble the innocent people and full this world with the most nasty things and people. my position is my thinking of some evil ideas to destroy the town, as shown with my hand actions and my body structure.

Duck's Theme

Refection:
Duck's Theme was quite a funny one to do. This time also it was really hard trying to find when and where to crop the video, but then when I saw a duck I thought hmm… that must be duck's theme so I cropped and it was correct… HORRAY!. After playing the duck's theme and learning it I helped my friends out if they needed help. If I would have had more time then I would have definitely learned a few more pieces to get a higher mark but I tried my best and that is all I could say

Wolf's Theme

Reflection:
Wolf's Theme was easy to learn since it was so short it was extremely easy to learn. The hard part for this was mix crafting it because it took a bit of time to find when to crop I had to listen to everything like a 100 times. I like this theme because it had a very scary sound to like a DUN DUN DUN… sound which was creepy but fun at the same time.

Peter's Theme

Reflection:
Peter's Theme was a very nice piece I actually really liked it. Peter's Theme wasn't as confusing as Hunter's Theme because I learned the basic notes of Music so it was easy. When I saw Miss Cross play it I got a really good idea of it. Putting it in mix craft was still confusing because i didnt have the guide for mix craft because it was deleted. I asked my friends for help and once i got some help it was really easy.

Hunter's Theme

Hunter's Theme was a really easy piece to learn it was very fun but it was extremely hard converting it to mixcraft, to be honest for this reflection I actually have not much to say. Music is actually my favorite lesson

Peter's Theme

Reflection:
Peter’s theme was very easy to learn and also very interesting I learned it in a day and really quickly so I could get on to my next theme!!!

Hunter's Theme

Reflection: Since i was absent, i think i did well. i learned the Hunter's Theme by my  friend Nadia so i don't disturb the teacher, i also learned new notes!
